I have arranged the room for next year and there is enough money to pay for that and for a few speakers on top of that. I am looking for people to plan them. Only one or two each is the idea. They could follow the current pattern. That is to say finding a speaker, booking them etc.. If you want I will show you how I would go about it. Then there's the way David does it in the discussion group. With consultation he chooses a couple of topics and leaves the discussion to flow with minimum interruption. Finally me there's the way, I am told, Pauline does it at the general history group. This is similar to the way the discussion group runs but with some direction as to where to find background information on the topic. There is the quiz in November so it's only 10 meetings we are talking about.
We also need somebody to be our point of contact for the Heritage Plaques Project of the Merseyside Civic Society. Which I don't mind continue to do, but properly, if somebody can take some of my workload elsewhere. We've had an email from them more details of which I will post in due course. This will be after I have done the paperwork the branch (or, more accurately, the u3a's insurers) are looking for. If anybody wants to volunteer to do that I would be happy to hand it over. I promise I'll get it done Louise!
Finally there's the website to look after. Volunteers to edit one or more of the sections, particularly the pictures one which I'm getting more and more frustrated with. So somebody knows what they're doing would be great. I'm currently in Newcastle on the branches visit. For those of you who are not here you're missing out! I've been asked several times where they can see my pictures or post their own. There is a demand.
I would see these people forming a very loose editorial board. Basically a backup procedure should they feel that something is unsuitable putting on the site. It would be nothing too demanding, hopefully nothing at all.
